A Matchmaker’s Guide to a Single Valentine’s Day
February is often seen as a month for couples, but being single can be just as fulfilling. This time of year is the perfect excuse to lean into joy, self-care, and saying yes to new experiences — whether you're dating, taking a break, or enjoying life on your own terms.
Embrace the Spirit
I get it - there have been years when I didn’t even want to acknowledge Valentine’s Day at all… but there’s something fun about leaning into the romance of the season, even if just for yourself. After weeks of grey, dreary weather, we owe ourselves a little light!
Step out of your comfort zone. Go to that comedy night or offline dating event — if nothing else, you’ll have a great story to tell later. Challenge yourself with small wins:
Celebrate all forms of love. Valentine’s Day isn’t just for couples — take a moment to show appreciation for the people who matter to you.
Bring joy to the little ones in your life. Bake together, make silly crafts, or have a spontaneous dance party in the kitchen, because love comes in many forms.
Send a thoughtful message. Drop a note to a friend or family member just to say you appreciate them — you never know whose day you’ll make.
Treat Yourself Like Someone You Love
This month, prioritise yourself. Whether that means indulging in a small luxury, diving into a new hobby, or simply taking some time to rest, here are some ideas:
Watch something fun — The new season of Love Is Blind just dropped on Netflix… just saying 😉
Cook something comforting — Try a cozy homemade meal like zucchini mac & cheese.
Try a new game on Steam — Feeling introspective? Kind Words 2 is a cozy and uplifting experience. Prefer a social night? Try The Past Within with friends.
Move your body — Whether it's the gym, a yoga class, or just stretching at home, movement boosts your mood.
Step outside — Even a short walk in the fresh winter air can do wonders for your mindset. This Valentine’s Day, Berlin was lucky enough to see snow; take a moment to enjoy the beauty of it! ❄️
Treat yourself to something special — Buy yourself flowers, your favourite snack, or a book you’ve been meaning to read.
Take a break from dating apps — If they’re bringing you more stress than excitement, delete them for a bit. Love isn’t an algorithm, and you don’t have to swipe to find it.
Stay Open to What’s Next
Take a few moments to reflect:
What do I really want from my love life this year?
Whether your goal is to put yourself out there more, date with clearer intentions, or simply feel more confident, setting an intention makes a difference.
Whatever this season looks like for you, I hope you find joy in it. And if you ever feel like you could use a little support in navigating the dating world, I’m here to meet you where you are.
With love,
Alysia
